What will happen at my consultation?

With NHS waiting lists and delays becoming worse, it can be much quicker and easier to go directly to a specialist such as Dr Bhadauria for help. You can book a consultation with him where you will be asked several specific questions relating to your symptoms and you also have a thorough physical, yet gentle, examination to help Dr Bhadauria establish how much mobility you have in your affected joints.

You will also have your blood tested to make sure there isn’t another underlying disease present that could be the cause of your symptoms, although your blood test results cannot show that you have rheumatoid arthritis.

You may also be booked in to have other diagnostic imaging tests to check for joint inflammation and level of damage done using X-rays and MRI scans.

Treatments from Dr Bhadauria

Once referred to a Rheumatology Consultant such as Dr Bhadauria, patients often discover that their condition can be treated. The main treatments Dr Bhadauria specialises in are divided into the following three categories:

Steroid Joint Injections
Also known as a hydrocortisone injection, steroid injections are a common form of treatment that provides effective relief from arthritic pain or an injury. With regard to injury in particular, steroid injections are particularly useful for, quite literally, being able to get back on your feet more quickly than you would without having had the injections.

Analgesic Pain Relief
Analgesic pain relief is a broad range of medication options, ranging from over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to codeine or morphine, which can only be prescribed.

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is often determined as a course of action either following surgery or in place of surgery. In many instances, physiotherapy can help patients get back to leading a normal life again as it gives them the use of movement again in the affected area of their body.

Getting help early

Many rheumatological conditions start with joint pain, but many people will be uncertain whether their joint pain is the early sign of arthritis or another condition that shares the same symptoms.

This is why it can be very helpful to get an early diagnosis to find out what is causing your joint, musculoskeletal or soft tissue pain and get the most appropriate treatment for it. If your condition is in an early stage, having a consultation with a rheumatology specialist can put your mind at rest and you will feel confident that you are taking the right course of action to help prevent the condition from worsening.

As a specialist rheumatologist in London, I would be happy to help you. Whether you are newly diagnosed or you have been experiencing a level of joint pain for some time, you don’t have to let the pain to rule your life. Get in touch with me to arrange a consultation so we can work out the best pain management plan to suit your needs.

Symptoms of rheumatism

You may be suffering from rheumatism if you experience pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints of your hands, fingers, wrists, feet and ankles. You may notice that your symptoms vary in intensity with days when your joint pain and stiffness gets worse. This is known as a flare-up of your symptoms and there is no way that you can predict when a flare-up will happen.

If you are experiencing these symptoms you will need to get an accurate diagnosis from a specialist such as Dr Bhadauria at his rheumatology clinic in London.

Diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis can be tricky because many other health conditions can display similar symptoms, and you will need to have any other possible causes for your joint pain and discomfort ruled out before a correct diagnosis can be given.
